EYELID SURGERY

Because the skin around the eyes is so delicate, it can be difficult to find an effective treatment option that addresses your cosmetic concerns. For significant sagging skin, blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is usually recommended. Dr. Carl N. Williams performs blepharoplasty on either the upper or lower lids or both, and he does so using advanced techniques that ensure you experience as little downtime as possible.

BLEPHAROPLASTY: THE PROCEDURE

Blepharoplasty is designed to reduce skin around the eyelids as a way to rejuvenate the structure of the eyes and face.* Not only can sagging skin detract from your appearance, but also it can impair your vision and impact your quality of life. Excess skin can make you look tired and worn out, regardless of your current emotional state, and it can keep you from the everyday activities that allow you to be independent. When your body begins to interfere with your ability to function normally, it’s time to seek out treatment options that can help.

Blepharoplasty targets skin around the upper and lower eyelids with minimal incisions that attempt to reduce significant scarring. The first step to receiving eyelid surgery is to consult with Dr. Williams and determine which portions of the eyelid need to be addressed. Dr. Williams will examine the quality of your skin and design a treatment plan tailored to your individual facial aesthetic.

When treating the upper eyelid, Dr. Williams will make an incision along the natural crease of the lid, which will allow him to remove excess skin and unwanted fat. Additionally, Dr. Williams will reposition the remaining fatty deposits to create an appealing contour above the eye.

Surgery of the lower eyelid involves an incision either within the lash line or inside the lid. Just as with the upper eyelid, unwanted skin and fat are removed while remaining features are redistributed and tightened. Dr. Williams closes the incisions using sutures and adhesives, which will be removed during a follow-up appointment as you recover.

COMBINING EYELID SURGERY WITH FOREHEAD LIFT

The beauty of the many facial rejuvenation techniques available is that they can easily be combined with other surgeries. If you exhibit sagging or folding skin along your forehead, Dr. Williams may recommend forehead lift along with blepharoplasty.

Wrinkles that occur horizontally on the forehead as well as on the nose or between the eyes can influence your countenance and make you appear chronically angry or worried. Removing excess skin and repositioning the brows can help you look more alert and youthful.*

During your consultation, Dr. Williams can help you decide whether you would benefit from a forehead lift. He will discuss the various incisions that he can use to provide optimal facial rejuvenation.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER SURGERY

Because you have decided to undergo one or more surgical procedures, you can expect a few weeks of downtime before you can return to your regular daily routine. Dr. Williams will equip you with post-operative care instructions that will ensure your incisions heal properly and that you remain comfortable during the recovery process.

You will experience some swelling and bruising around the eyes and forehead if you have received a brow lift. Your eyes may also feel dry and uncomfortable for a few days after surgery. Often, cold compresses and ointments can alleviate pain, and Dr. Williams can prescribe any additional medications that will make your recovery as smooth as possible.

After two weeks or at the discretion of Dr. Williams, you can return to work, and much of the bruising still present around the eyes can be covered with cosmetics. Your eyes will continue to heal and refine for several weeks, but you will be able to notice a significant improvement over time.*
