Neck Lift

NECK LIFT

Along with your face, your neck is one of the first areas to show signs of aging. Together, loose skin, sunken facial features, and deep wrinkles can cause you to look older than you feel.

The skin on your neck specifically can begin to sag and create jowls, masking the separation between your chin and neck. It can also produce what’s known as a “turkey wattle” that may look or feel unappealing.

Although the neck may not be the first region you think of when considering facial rejuvenation, tightening the skin around the neck can improve your overall appearance.* By undergoing neck lift surgery, you can enhance the contours of your face and look years younger in the process.*

WHAT DOES A NECK LIFT TREAT?

A neck lift will target the excess skin and fat contributing to an obscure jawline and sagging jowls. It will also tighten loose muscles to create a smooth neckline from the chin downward.* For optimal results, Dr. Williams may perform a neck lift in combination with a facelift or liposuction, which ensures that your rejuvenation is comprehensive; however, a neck lift can also be performed as a stand-alone procedure.

IS NECK LIFT SURGERY RIGHT FOR YOU?

A neck lift is designed to enhance the overall aesthetic of the face.* If you are self-conscious about sagging skin along your neck or feel that your neck ages you and makes you look overweight, then a neck lift may be right for you.

During a consultation, Dr. Williams can assess the skin lining your neck and determine whether surgery would be beneficial. Although nonsurgical options are available, a neck lift will provide the most significant improvement.

Dr. Williams will also compare the elasticity of your neck to regions of your face and see if you could be a candidate for other forms of facial rejuvenation. Receiving a neck lift on its own may distinguish other aging features around the face, and Dr. Williams will also help you consider additional procedures if necessary.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING SURGERY?

Although a neck lift has one common goal — to tighten excess skin and remove unwanted fat — the surgery is not a one-size-fits-all solution for a youthful appearance. Dr. Williams must tailor your surgery to suit the current structure of your neck, chin and face.

Depending on the amount of contouring you require, Dr. Williams may make an incision underneath the chin or behind the ears, giving him access to the underlying tissues. Dr. Williams places incisions in hidden areas to expedite the recovery process and mask any scarring once your incisions heal completely.

Dr. Williams will tighten the predominant muscle in the neck, known as the platysma muscle, and trim away any additional fat. With the muscles tightened and tissues repositioned, Dr. Williams will remove any excess skin and suture the incisions.

During your recovery, you will be equipped with post-operative instructions that detail how to care for your incisions or drains. If you have questions while you heal, you can schedule follow-up appointments with Dr. Williams to make sure that your results are progressing properly.
