FACELIFT

The natural aging process is not always welcome when it arrives. With the appearance of fine lines, deep wrinkles and sunken facial features, your skin may no longer represent the youthful characteristics you desire.

Because your face is often the first impression for your age, it’s an area that you may consider treating with plastic surgery. Receiving a facelift is a common and popular choice for patients who want to reduce several of the qualities that make them feel older.

SHOULD YOU CONSIDER A FACELIFT?

As you continue to age, your skin will slow down its production of collagen and elastin — two essential proteins that aid in the turnover of damaged skin cells. A shortage of these proteins will often increase wrinkles, accentuate age spots, or produce a dull complexion.

You face will also lose subcutaneous fat over time, which is what allows your skin to look plump and feel smooth. Without it, your skin may begin to sag, and certain areas, such as your eyes and cheeks, may start to look hollow or sunken. All of these changes contribute to an aging face that can affect the way you feel psychologically.

If you are self-conscious about your appearance or feel that the way you look doesn’t accommodate your lifestyle, then you might consider receiving facelift surgery. Additionally, if you are noticing that gravity, sun exposure and hereditary signs of aging are taking a toll on the appearance of your skin, then facial rejuvenation may benefit you.*

CHOOSING THE RIGHT FACELIFT TECHNIQUE

Facelift surgery must be highly customized to enhance the unique contours of your face. Dr. Williams takes the time to review and understand your individual facial structure, lifestyle and facial expressions to determine the best techniques for your procedure. Dr. Williams considers it a priority to learn about your everyday life so he can craft the most natural and beautiful result.

Your consultation is a time to discuss your cosmetic concerns and ask specific questions about your facelift. Understanding the procedural details of facelift surgery and learning what you can expect once the surgery is complete will help you make a meaningful decision about whether to move forward.

The treatment plan that Dr. Williams creates may implement several techniques, depending on the contours of your face. Enhancement to the lower facial region may include the jaw and jowls while mid-facial contouring can target the cheeks and lower eyelids. Additionally, you may receive rejuvenation along the upper portions of your face, such as the eyebrows and forehead. Due to the multiple techniques that Dr. Williams can employ, neck lift, brow lift and eyelid lifts are usually performed alongside facelift surgery.

Your incisions will depend on the degree of facial rejuvenation you are receiving as well as the enhancements that you desire. Dr. Williams will work to reposition or “lift” the facial tissues, tighten muscles, and remove any excess fat to improve the contours of the face.* Afterward, he will carefully re-drape the skin back over your face to produce a smooth and tightened skin texture before closing the incisions with sutures.*

Following your surgery, Dr. Williams will equip you with aftercare instructions that explain how to care for your incisions and any drains placed, and his staff will help you schedule follow-up appointments to check on the progress of your recovery.
