Rhinoplasty

RHINOPLASTY

As one of the most noticeable features on the face, your nose can either balance out or detract from your appearance. Dr. Carl Williams performs rhinoplasty for those who have aesthetic concerns with their noses or who experience structural difficulties, such as breathing problems.

Many people whose noses look asymmetrical or exhibit a hump or bulbous tip may desire nose surgery to enhance their facial contour. Additionally, those who are experiencing functional concerns from a deviated septum may also benefit from reconstructive techniques. With a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Williams, you can determine whether rhinoplasty is the right procedure for you.

THE BENEFITS OF RHINOPLASTY

Many psychological concerns accompany imperfections in the nose, and because of its prominence, it can be difficult to mask. Although there are nonsurgical solutions that target the surface of the nose, only rhinoplasty can alter structural concerns that create cosmetic defects.

Through surgery, you can target the specific deformities that are causing facial asymmetry. Because it is one of the most popular surgeries for people with disproportionate noses, each procedure is highly adjustable to suit your specific needs.

NOSE SURGERY CAN ADDRESS:

  •   UNBALANCED FACIAL FEATURES
  •   NARROW NOSTRILS
  •   HUMPS OR DEPRESSIONS IN THE NASAL BRIDGE
  •   NOSTRILS THAT ARE TOO LARGE OR WIDE
  •   NASAL CROOKEDNESS

Dr. Williams must perform rhinoplasty in a way that complements your facial aesthetic, and he can learn more about your expectations during a consultation in his office. He may collect measurements of your face and nose or take photographs to design a treatment plan that addresses your particular concerns.

The goal is for your rhinoplasty to look completely natural and restore balance to your face, almost as if you never had any work done at all. To accomplish this, Dr. Williams must combine precision with advanced techniques to produce results that you are satisfied with.

CORRECTING A DEVIATED SEPTUM

Trouble breathing on a regular basis may be due to a deviated septum, which occurs when cartilage from the nose obstructs the airway. Your primary physician must first diagnose a deviated septum, but afterward, your plastic surgeon can make necessary corrections.

The surgery involves removal of the cartilage that is creating an obstruction as well as restoring a symmetrical shape to the nose. Although correcting a deviated septum is not considered an aesthetic procedure, you may receive some cosmetic benefit as a result, especially if you consult with Dr. Williams about enhancing both the function and appearance of your nose.

RHINOPLASTY PROCEDURAL STEPS

Rhinoplasty is very specific to each patient and must adhere to your individual characteristics, which means that the technique Dr. Williams uses during your surgery will depend on your customized treatment plan. The majority of procedures, however, involve incisions that are made either in an open or closed fashion on the inside of the nose or along the tissue separating the nostrils. Both incisions give Dr. Williams access to the bones and cartilage requiring correction.

Once he has made an incision, Dr. Williams will make corrections based on the parameters outlined in your treatment plan. Then he will place splints or packing within the nostrils after suturing your incisions, which helps support the structure of your new nose and absorb excess fluids.

Depending on the extent of your surgery, complete recovery could take several months to a year. Your nose will continue to refine in shape and size over time, and as long as you follow the post-operative instructions given to you by Dr. Williams, your nose surgery should be a success.

Dr. Williams can assist you during the healing process by scheduling follow-up appointments to make sure your nose is recovering properly. He can also provide additional suggestions on how to care for your nose that go beyond initial post-operative care as you continue to heal.
