Thinking About Body Contouring? 3 Things to Consider

Thinking About Body Contouring? 3 Things to Consider

Modern body contouring treatments are a wonderful way to address stubborn fatty deposits and achieve the look you’ve worked so hard for. But it’s important to go into the process with a clear understanding of how these treatments work and what you can do to ensure success.

At Carl N. Williams, Jr. M.D. Hand and Plastic Surgery, our team understands how important it is to feel confident about your appearance. That’s why we offer a wide range of the latest medical aesthetics and plastic surgery treatment options.

Whether you’re looking for a noninvasive way to refine your body or ready to take the plunge with cosmetic surgery, we’re here to listen to your needs and guide you toward the right fit. Here, we cover three things to consider as you move closer to body contouring treatment.

1. Body contouring is about refining, not transforming

SculpSure® is one of our most popular body contouring options. The platform uses laser technology to create heat in targeted fat cells. That heat damages the cells, preventing them from storing fat.

The damaged cells collapse, and your body processes and eliminates the fat and cell debris in the weeks following treatment. This leaves you with fewer fat cells in the treatment area and a more refined contouring.

SculpSure is a great way to eliminate issues like love handles, additional volume in the upper thighs or upper arms, or fullness at your bra line or lower abdomen.

But SculpSure is not a weight loss treatment. You should be around your ideal weight before you begin treatments. Also, the fat cells that remain can still expand and contract to store more or less fat. If you gain a significant amount of weight after treatment, it can alter your results.

2. Body contouring results aren’t instant

Kybella® is another body sculpting treatment we offer. It focuses on reducing fullness in the area beneath your chin.

It relies on multiple shallow injections of a substance called deoxycholic acid. Your body produces this substance naturally, breaking down dietary fat. The synthetic deoxycholic acid Kybella treatments use also destroys fat cells.

Fewer fat cells beneath your chin means less fullness in the area, and a more streamlined profile. But these effects don’t happen instantaneously. It takes time for the damaged fat cells to collapse and for your body to break them down and clear them through your lymphatic system.

So patience is a key part of the process. It can take months before you see the full effects of your body contouring treatments.

3. You may need skin tightening services after body contouring

Sagging skin can make it difficult to appreciate the refined contouring you’ve achieved. Depending on the condition of your skin after weight loss and how much fat you lose with body contouring, you might need skin tightening treatments to see your trim, toned physique.

We offer an innovative skin tightening treatment called ThermiSmooth®. The process works by using a handheld device to deliver radiofrequency (RF) energy to areas where skin isn’t as tight as you’d like.

That RF energy creates heat that your body responds to with renewed collagen and elastin production. The end result is smoother, tighter skin without adding volume in the area.
